Caring for Dry Skin
Having dry skin is the bain of women everywhere. It is sometimes much worse for those of us that have to spend a lot of time outside in the sun. Some of us just don’t have the time for the extra skin care that is needed to fight the condition. Having a regular daily skin care routine can help with dry skin, but your choice of skin care cream is critical.
Never forget that cravat emptor (buyer beware!) is the norm in the world of skin care products. Not all skin care creams are created equal. Some skin care creams, even those with brand names, can be bad for dry skin.
Stay away from skin creams that list any type of alcohol on the label. Alcohol will actually remove moisture and make your skin even drier.
Avoid skin creams that “smell good”, as fragrance is a useless filler ingredient. You need something that will moisturize, not smell good.
Skin creams that contain derivatives of natural products can also harm dry skin. Dioxane, which is artificially derived from coconut cream, is a perfect example. Health professionals believe that long term use of dioxane will cause all manner of skin problems, including cancer.
You should also avoid products that list “essence of ______” on their list of ingredients. Containing the essence of a natural substance assures you that it’s man-made, and not actually natural. Instead, look for products that contain extracts, which are made from the real thing.
