Piano For Beginners

If you’re a complete beginner or if you studied when you were a child and gave it up, to start playing the keyboards or the piano you will need to take some sort of tuition. Which ever applies to you the method of learning how to play is the same.

There are several methods of tuition but really they are all quite alike. Even if you are learning using electronic keyboards instead of a normal piano, the lessons you will get will be the same. Many students would like to learn how to read music and play some classical pieces but they could also be interested in playing some modern music, pop songs or perhaps even Jazz. They might also want to learn how to accompany singers and other instrumentalist.

This could appear a lot to achieve as a complete beginner but if you know what your aims are then accomplishing them will only be a matter of time. You will see that in a relatively short time you will be achieving most of the above.

Piano for Beginners

A short while ago I had to write a review for a home study piano course called ‘Piano For All’, I loved the method they used for teaching. The methods for teaching they used in this course impressed me a lot.Fist off you are shown how to find all of the notes on the keyboard. Then they show you how to play a simple melody which entails using all of the fingers, as a leaning aid. The melody is written out so you can see it and there is also a diagram of the piano keyboard to remind you where the notes in question are

All this takes just a few minutes. After this you are taught the three notes that make up a basic chord. You are given an easy rhythm to play the chord to. You are then asked to duplicate the first note of the chord with your left hand but an octave lower, this gives you a bass note. They give you a rhythm for the bass line and suddenly you find yourself playing a musical phrase that sounds good and isn’t difficult to play at all.

Once you have this feeling easy to play, which will be almost immediate, you are then taught two or three more simple basic chords. With the handful of chords you now know you can put them to one of the rhythms you have been taught and playing the chords in a sequence you will find yourself able to play recognizable songs. Learning this way is great for gaining confidence and leaves you wanting to learn more. As you progress you are shown some different chords, different rhythms and tunes. Very soon you find yourself getting better as a piano player and musician and with each lesson the playing sounds more and more authentic.

In my opinion this method of learning is one of the best as it encompasses playing all styles of music from classical to pop, rock, jazz and gospel. It also teaches you how to read music and play by ear and as such is very effective.
